The Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs has put the improvement of the country’s GII score on its agenda since 2015. In this regard, an interorganizational working group has been formed in the presence of a representative of all organizations and ministries related to the balanced dimensions of national innovation hosted by the Vice-Presidency for science and technology affairs. In the working group, consultations are held with the world intellectual property organization, the publisher of the report. According to interorganizational cooperation, updated data of 81 indexes of this report has been collected and is being sent to the world intellectual property organization. With follow-ups conducted by the Vice-Presidency, in the latest version of GII report (published on June 15th, 2017), which contained the latest status of this index in 127 countries in 2017, Iran’s rank was improved from 120 in 2014 to 78 in 2016 and to 75 in the current year, which demonstrates a remarkable growth owing to the adopting of policies of economy of resistance and development of knowledge-based economy. This issue has put the country among the most advanced economies in terms of innovation and leading innovation in the South Asian and Central Asian region after India.
